Re: St Kilda has pinned its faith on four mature-aged recruits leading into 2019
Their skill level is extremely high as well and was from day dot, Hayes/Selwood probably the only "battlers" out of that lot but those 2 got to the top with sheer G&D. And as you said, they all trained harder than others. Cousins did have some "help" with his training though.

Re: Can slower midfields win games?
Put Blake Acres in the guts and watch him break out of those stoppages. He's looking bigger so shouldn't have any issues in the strength department (I just started a thread on him and there's a link with video). Hopefully his fitness allows him to be played in the centre and hopefully Richo let's h...

Re: St Kilda has pinned its faith on four mature-aged recruits leading into 2019
Where has it ever been stated or confirmed that the Saints only picked good kids from good homes? I think you will find that the majority of 18 year old kids that get drafted are good kids in general and do the right things in life and they do come from decent homes. Its probably one of the reasons...

Re: St Kilda has pinned its faith on four mature-aged recruits leading into 2019
I don't think too many on here have mentioned the "nice kids" policy....maybe a couple. But it has got some traction and in Trouts view it was his own motto by the sound of it. Character is important to a degree but will never come first in a selection policy. Better drive, dedication, pe...

He is a young buck and will get the best medical attention but it might take a while for him to get playing again.

Re: Tears of joy for Matthew Parker after St Kilda offer a draft lifeline
I believe that this guy could be the next dusty. He has a similar way of moving, pace, and demeanor. I feel from hearing him talk that he will give it everything he's got. All he needs is opportunities from <edited by mods>...but in this I fear, that all opportunities will continue to be given to N...

Re: Can slower midfields win games?
Leg speed can be an advantage, but it’s not everything. In a lot of cases it’s how fast you think and act and move the ball that counts. Any case, Jack Steven’s certainly not slow and I applaud the move of Gresham to the midfield. It’s about balance really. We’ve had a preponderance of in and under...

I will take ability any day. Character is over rated As Nathan Burke wrote in an article recently... "Who would you rather have in your team; the self-starter with leadership qualities or the kid who needs to be spoon-fed? I know which player I would prefer on my list. Having future draftees u...

Re: St Kilda has pinned its faith on four mature-aged recruits leading into 2019
St Kilda drafting genius. That would be squandering a No1 draft selection on an undersized tall forward with type 1 diabetes guaranteed to ensure he would never be an elite mover. Completely agree with you. The trout Elshaug era brought this club to its knees. My prediction is Paddy will be gone so...

Put Garry Lyon out of the game, he had a bulged disc. He had already played over 200 games though. He had the op but I think it got him in the end.

Re: St Kilda are the laughing stock of the AFL
The recruiting issue....we'll, we are paying for the sins of Ross Lyon and Chris Pelchen. Elshaug's record is far better than those two, even though he is pilloried on this forum. It was Pelchen who coughed up first round picks for Hickey an Tom Lee. Also, the loss of an early second round pick for...

There’s not much I can report at this stage. They’re all genuinely good kids. They’re not participating in any match skills etc but working together on fitness etc, talking to the dieticians etc. I you get a chance to have a look at them ( Sandy ,Sat morning for those interested) feast your eyes on...

Another player like Dunstan, Lonie and others who showed promise in their first year or 2 but couldnt get to the next level. I think some of these players simply plateau a bit and either stay there or improve. It is very difficult at the elite end to make that improvement, however he, Dunstan and L...

Re: Daniel McKenzie
A number of these guys you mention need to tidy up their disposal, at this stage some of them add no value because they continually turn the ball over and in the wrong positions on the ground. As the side gets stronger those who cannot do the basics well will be forced out. This may be a coaching is...

I am not convinced about the 12 number. Roo was almost our greatest player...certainly in the top 5. Maybe mothball it for a couple of years. Just my opinion. I think it should be presented after the new recruit has shown his wares. Top 5 not in order Stewart Baldock Lockett Harvey Riewoldt Fair ca...

Re: St Kilda are the laughing stock of the AFL
For me , we have to make the backline as strong as possible, it is like a sieve despite everyone saying we have a mob of half backs etc. must be able to repel the opposition forward thrusts. The top four backlines are strong. Who is the saints backline coach, are we developing shannon Hurn types? Ou...

Re: Welcome Callum Wilkie
Not big enough to play key defence but skills are good although the pressure of sanfl to AFL is a big leap. Looks a better left foot kick that Webster, Brown and Mckenzie. Saints defence was always under pressure which means poor disposal but the above named are not good kicks anyway unless they are...

Re: PICK 41 - JACK BYTEL - ST KILDA
His skills look good to me, can use his left foot which a lot of current saints players cannot do despite being in the system for years and thereby what I call "non -learners". As he stated, he did have stress fractures which healed and now has the disc problem. Bit of a worry with ongoing...
