Re: King unbalances the team?

I've previously declared that Max King should never be traded and that any number of teams would like to have him at full forward. But watching Tim Membrey, Cooper Sharman and Michito Owens taking strong grabs up forward, plus the likes of Charlie Curnow, Jesse Hogan and Aaron Cadman do likewise and...

Re: Statement re Thomas

An interesting thought: Garry Lyon speculated that if Tarryn Thomas wants to extend his career playing AFL he would be well advised to do so in the lower leagues for a period of time to demonstrate that he has reformed his bad behaviour towards females once and for all. Could it be that Gubby Allen ...

Re: Statement re Thomas

Proverbial storm in a teacup, this little charade was never going to amount to anything in the short term. I've no doubt there will be many other clubs actively considering throwing Thomas a lifeline should his November court proceedings result in acquittal and corroboration that he has rehabilitate...

What has all of the foregoing got to do with Josh Battle and the talk that he could go to Hawthorn??????????

I keep checking this thread in case there are actually some new developments in this story......

Re: Tarryn Thomas

Gubby Allen having a discussion with Thomas over lunch is in itself not unreasonable for St Kilda's recruiting team, to assess if in fact Thomas is deserving of consideration to return to senior football once the legal process in November has concluded. As far as I'm concerned I believe it is best t...

Re: My Boy Coops

Cooper Sharman didn't just play as a forward, he also popped up in defence and on the wings, presumably under instruction from the coaches box. He shouldn't be crucified because the team as a whole was unable to get hands on the ball first, nor withstand the dominance of the Lions all over the groun...

Re: Predictions this Round

Saints by 15. Should've beaten them last time. Definitely a chance to turn the tables on the loss at the Gabba in June - in the last quarter St Kilda kicked 7 unanswered goals before Windhager was pinged with a 50m penalty that turned the game back in the Lion's favour! On current form a win is cer...

Re: Cal Wilkie vs Luke Penny and Max Hudghton

Max still well ahead. Played on the key forward every week in an era where far higher scores were kicked, and was rarely beaten. Max was up against massive units like Lloyd, Franklin, Neitz, Brown, Tredrea, Hall, Richardson and Fevola - the latter three claiming he was the best full back they playe...

Re: My Boy Coops

How Max King will be deployed once he is free of injury is the $64 million question arising out of the last two games against WC Eagles and Essendon. I was even thinking that this was yet another indication that the days of the tall key full forward might be over. Cooper Sharman (193 cm, 88 kg) is a...

Re: Team vs Essendon

It's possible that Ryan Byrnes will take up some of Liam Henry's role at stoppages and in attack, leaving Mason Woods to play wing and Caminiti forward. It will be a good test for Ronnie as he's been playing as well as he ever has since breaking back into the firsts - I hope he continues to improve ...

Re: Predictions this Round

The forward line to really start to get some synergy and connection, if Members can bring it again, my boy Coops should get onto 3-5 or more, Owens should also get onto about 3 goals, Higgo to also get 2 or more. I'd really like to see the forward line finish off strongly without King in the side j...

The 2021 recruits (including our limited draft picks after selling the farm in 2020) were Crouch, Higgins, Chip Frawley, Shaun McKernan, Tom Highmore and Matt Allison St Kilda spent a fair bit of time ...and resources (not to mention giving up 1st and second round picks) trying to find senior playe...

Short term sugar hits for a spot in finals in 2025 is a short cut that will lead to another drop down the ladder in 2026. We've been there in 2020 and 2023. We need to be patient. Provide opportunities to young players..or... Bring in 23-26 year olds not getting opportunities at Carlton, Sydney, th...

Re: Battle

No idea if Battle goes or stays, but if the compensation is a #5 I’m not too fussed on the outcome. Battle is a very good AFL player, tough & durable, but it certainly appears (again from media so who knows?) that Hawthorn will pay overs to get him. #5 might not be better than Battle, but he ma...

Are you going to get an 18yo big powerful AFL size mid. There are (not) many available options at our pick We got Owens - as a big-bodied, powerful onballer - at pick 33, but I guess that doesn’t count as apparently the club doesn’t seem to consider him a possible midfielder. Look, I tend to agree ...

Re: Mitch Owens

Owens is certainly not impacting games in the way I had been expecting this year, but that may be due to the coaches instructing him to play a particular role. I wouldn't think that he needs to be sent back to the seconds, but with Phillipou out he could well play a tall midfield role at the contest...

Re: Max's next contract

I tend to think that this story is to ward off approaches from the many other clubs that would love to bring Max King into their sides, especially the power house clubs like Collingwood and Geelong who are desperate to recruit a gun key forward. Sure, Max may not have established himself as a champ...

Well, he's gone now officially. Don Pyke (CEO i think) said Simmo might coach this week, to which Simmo replied 'geez, Don, we haven't really decided that yet, hey' So how does that affect our game in 2 weeks? For those who wanna say 'a club that's just sacked its coach usually wins the next game' ...

I've given this a lot of thought and changed my view which was that his departure would not be the end of the world because St Kilda is blessed with a few other options to take his place as a key defender. The thing we need to take into account is that Battle is a really versatile player, equally at...
