Re: Dylan Shiel

Following article by Jon Ralph in today's Hun: It gives a very clear insight into the AFL's rules regarding player trading. It looks like Ralph had a gander at this thread  I remain open-minded to Shiel coming to Moorabbin, provided that won't entail any of the first three 2023 draft picks and ...

Re: Billings wants out

Jack Billings at age 28 is not going to get any better, his best years are behind him. It's alright to say that Ross Lyon doesn't rate or like him but I'm sure if Hayes, Harvey and Enright felt JB should be selected that would have happened. There's a mistaken tendency by supporters who don't like R...

Re: Our Bobby Hill

It's interesting to read what people think of past and current players and comparing these to Bobby Hill. The latter, by the way, is a midget at 175cm so Gresham at 177cm is the only like for like. But Gresham has never once that I've seen displayed anything like the mercurial pace and aerial agilit...

Re: Billings wants out

Fair enough. He's been treated like s***. Maybe Essendon will take him. In what way was he poorly treated this year magnifisaint? I have long consdered him no more than just a fringe player and has never really had an impact when he's been in the team, it's likely the selectors felt the same way.

Re: Dylan Shiel

In today's Hun Jon Ralph elaborates on the Gresham/Sheil deal that throws more light on the possible trade: " The AFL could approve a St Kilda-Essendon free agency-trade swap involving Jade Gresham and Dylan Shiel – but it would be rigorously checked before being stamped. Every trade and free a...

Re: Cauliflower 🆚 Brussels Sprouts

I actually would like Collingwood to win. I have never had a problem with the club, I don't have the hatred for them that I do for Carlton, Essendon or Geelong. Their supporters have a record of being a bit uncultured perhaps but the majority are good natured with a bit of a fatalistic streak somew...

Re: The Worst Place To Be

West Coast and other clubs like Collingwood have managed to have consistent sustainable success with top 4 teams and then both clubs had bottomed out for a period of time...and then build from the draft. Both won premierships in the 90's and then bottomed out in the late 90's. Both again won premie...

Re: The Brown-nose Medal

Back in the days when there was a single field umpire and even when there were 2 and 3 they followed the play all over the ground and could observe the way players performed. Now that there are 4 field umpires they set up 4 parts of the ground and don't necessarilly follow every play when it goes fr...

Re: The Worst Place To Be

I remain quite upbeat about St Kilda's prospects and beyond. This year the team did far better than anyone expected, including most Saints supporters, and they accomplished this with a very average list of players. I feel confident that the List Managers will be adding some very good players via the...

Re: Wreck it moron

No way should (or is it likely) that St Kilda give up a late compensation frdp if that eventuates from trading Gresham to Essendon to pay for Dylan Shiel. Even if that deal involves St Kilda's round 2 pick (currently 31) I don't think it should happen. Dylan Shiel at 31 and having managed just 12 ap...

Re: Kiddy Coleman

Totally agree, that thought occurred to me as well watching the Prelim. NWM is 5 cm taller than Coleman and has already played many more games in his first two years - 41 v 23. Just noticed that Nasiah is 6 cm taller than Nicky Winmar who I always thought played as a 'tall'....which suggests that he...

Re: Gresham

I'd be very surprised if St Kilda would entertain Essendon receiving anything more than a 3rd rounder (50) for Dylan Shiel, given his age and frigility, he missed at least 30 games (out of 60+) in the past 3 years through injury. That said, if that's all he'll cost I think he would be an upgrade in ...

Re: Keep Coffield

Glad to read solid support for retaining Nick Coffield. The question of who Coffield might replace in the current best 22+1 is irrelevant because in 2024 the selectors will start off with a blank sheet and use pre-season training performance, match simulations, intra-club games and injury lists to c...

Re: Keep Coffield

Reported in the papers today that Clark is negotiating a new contract with St Kilda. While I've had him listed as a possible trade, if the club believes he should stay that's fine. It's quite possible that under Lyon's tutelage Clark will become a much more effective member of the team, he does hav...

Re: Vale Kevin "Cowboy" Neale

Many years ago I was at a pre-game function when St Kilda came to play Brisbane, Cowboy Neale and Neil Roberts had all of us in tears of laughter with their tall tales of their playing days. A larger than life character who's passion for the club was boundless, he'll be sadly missed but always fondl...

Re: Jacob Koschitzke

If rumours that Dougal Howard is destined to go to the Swans are correct then signing Jacob Koschitzke to play full back makes a lot of sense. As good as Callum Wilkie is, the side defintely needs a big strong FB in the molds of Steven May and Jacob Weitering who have dominated for their teams this ...

Keep Coffield

I don't know what everyone else thinks but in pondering about Nick Coffield's future I have become increasingly convinced that the club should sign him up for the next two years. Looking at his record, long term injuries have kept him out of the game in both 2022 and 2023 which means that the club h...

Re: Liam Henry

I don't want him at all. He would add nothing to our side except pace (we have Peris who is younger that can add nothing but pace). He is another ball butcher and we already have a bunch of those. It wouldn't surprise me though if Ross went hard for him as he probably thinks he can turn him into de...

Re: Liam Henry

Fremantle were reported in the press last week to seek either a late FRDP or early 2nd rounder for Liam Henry. It's possible that Ross Lyon's connections with his former club will make this happen smoothly and within reasonable limits. As for Henry's abilities, I consider him to have the potential o...

Both the pro and anti suspension camps make valid points and it's hard to say how this will be adjudicated by the MRO. The comparison to Paddy Ryder's suspension is persuasive but as we're into the finals it may well be that Christian will handpass this hot potato straight to the tribunal for determ...

Re: Who will win and why Gws vs SAINTS

GWS is favoured to win both with the bookies and a majority of 'experts' in the papers. That's obvioulsly based on their overall stronger list of players compared to St Kilda. One commentator remarked that there is little difference between the two sides but St Kilda have a far more experienced coac...
