Re: How we are placed compared to the start of 2017

We have not improved. In fact I believe we have gone backwards thanks to Gags and his quick fix to sure up his job. Yeez Nick_BlueNRG, you're a Sad Sack, you're constantly posting negative comments about the New Saints, do you really believe that the team we had at the end of last season was going ...

Re: How we are placed compared to the start of 2017

You can't make such a comparison between the players St Kilda had at the end of 2016 and those that will be lining up in 2020. Fact is that 2017, 2018 and 2019 were seasons where the team had lost the only 2 elite players on the list and barely treaded water, and slipped down the ladder. Next season...

Re: James Gallagher on Big Name Recruits

Following article taken from SEN AFL news, an interesting insight into the strategy to make some real improvement to the team, by any measure these are exactly the sort of bold moves the club needed to make to break the shackles of mediocrity both off and on-field that has seen the club go nowhere ...

Re: Bigoa (Biggy) Nyuon

Looks to me like St Kilda rated the prospects of Jack Bell, who has been selected this morning in the rookie draft, ahead of Bigoa Nyuon, to add to the team's ruck stocks. Only time will tell if this was a good decision, at 18/19 and at the bottom of the draft list it is hard to know which one of th...

Re: The Draft

Gold Coast Suns have certainly picked up a lot of top talent in the last few drafts and I expect that from next year they will try and bring in some experienced senior players from other clubs, in exchange for some of their developing youngsters, much like GWS have done. It therefore follows that fo...

Re: Season 2020 - a repeat of 2008 - 2010??

I admire the optimism of some supporters but really this thread is... threadbare. Ruckmen aside, there’s simply daylight between the current crop of players and the cream of talent we had prior to those Grand Final appearances. The forward line is a case in point. With the departure of Bruce, we la...

Season 2020 - a repeat of 2008 - 2010??

With the emergence of Rowan Marshall as a future gun ruckman (better than Brodie Grundy at the same age according to Champion Data stats), the recruitment of the very experienced and former Essendon and Port Power champion ruckman Paddy Ryder, and now backed up by "yet to emerge" Ryan Abbo...

Re: Welcome Ryan Abbott

Great pick-up, Saints recruiters have done really well, Geelong were expecting to rookie Abbott so they may well be sorry to have delisted him, he was always going to be of interest to clubs like St Kilda that lack depth in the ruck division.

Re: Roberton eyes full pre season

As far as smaller backmen with line breaking speed and long penetrating kicks are concerned, there's a bloke called Savage that goes very well, and then there is another bloke who is underrated and is crucial to how our backline operates and his name is Webster. Said with TiC: what about the Saints...

Sanctorum your comments re AFL clubs sourcing their products from the same source is exhibit A that you don't support your club, you support a franchise. all the show bags are full the same cheap Chinese crap, just different colour. All memberships are a donation to the AFL, think of it as an enter...

Re: 2020 Membership Packs

I took issue with Saints Membership and Marketing teams last year about the poor membership pack in 2018 and again this year about 2019, in particular the quality of some of the smaller bits and pieces which are more appropriate for kids than adults. In my case, living in Brisbane I did not apprecia...

Re: Angus Schumacher

If St KIlda are looking at him then I expect they may see something in him that others have not. The lad is only 20 so it may well be that he is taking time to adjust to senior footy as he obviously showed reasonable potential as a junior. At 190 cm he is easily able to play midfield, should he deve...

Re: Out of contract

Expect Jake to have his best year in 2020, a pending contract renewal will do that. I think that's right, Jake has certainly not come even close to reaching his best form since moving to the Saints, and he does at times display signs of lack of interest or intent. But I would expect him to pull up ...

Re: Cross-codes Trading

Thanks for all the feedback, guess that all games played with a hard leather ball are going to risk head injuries, presumably that's why rugby players brought in touch football. Still, I get the feeling the AFL and AFLPA could do a lot more to "case manage" chronically injured players, esp...

Re: Armo

David Armitage was an OK sort of player, never more than ordinary in talent, not particularly pacy and arguably, in retrospect, not worthy of Pick 9, or even top 30. Looking at the 2006 Draft, the following players were available at Pick 9: 12 James Frawley 13 Jack Riewoldt 19 Shaun Grigg 26 Shane E...

Who does he squeeze out? Plenty of younger mids here that aren’t as good as Chris but I don’t know that I want Chris, Seb, Hanners, Dunstan and Steele all together in one team Would rather pump more games into the younger brigade and hope they step it up We are at the wrong phase of the rebuild cyc...

Cross-codes Trading

With Paddy McCartin facing the possibility that he will never play senior AFL football again it set me thinking.....maybe instead of playing footy and given his previous record of getting knocked out, he should really consider taking up a different elite sport, one that minimises head contact. As a ...

Looking at the list of Magarey Medal winners, not too many turned out to star in the AFL, with the notable exception of Nathan Buckley. Hard to say if Luke Partington has real potential and if he is any good you'd think he will be selected well before Pick 51 is called. My preference for 1st pick is...

Director of Coaching position is fine. That position doesn’t coach players or make strategic or tactical decisions. They give coaches feedback on the quality of their coaching and how effective the communications are between coaches and other coaches and also coaches and players. You're quite right...

Thoughts on Position of Director of Coaching

In yesterday's Australian, Paul Roos wrote an article on the subject of senior coaches in football codes generally, apropos the current discussions about who will replace Michael Cheika as the Wallabies Coach. The main emphasis of his opinion is that irrespective of code, a team's senior coach shoul...

Re: Who will be captain in 2020?

Retaining Jarryn Geary as captain for 2020 would to my mind fly in the face of all of the substantial changes and improvements that the club have made on and off the field. Next year will see the Saints field a completely new look team for Round 1, with the inclusion of Hill, Ryder and Jones most ce...
