Re: The decision to pick McCartin.
has there ever been a worse and more blatant drafting error in AFL draft history? I would argue there has not. Some picks are just hindsight errors. This was not. Petracca was everyones pick as the best player by miles that year and it is no surprise that he is now a superstar. Trout said 3 times &q...

Re: F@ck Hannebery
N0 thanks. Billings is only underrated on this forum, but not by the club. Last year he was second in disposals behind Steele. first in the number of kicks, 5th in marks taken, 2nd in the number of handballs given off, 4th in contested possessions, 1st in uncontested possessions, 3rd in score assis...

Re: Brad Hill
IMHO, Hill is not going well in terms of output/dollar paid. But team selection is based on output not output per dollar. On that ground, I would have quite a few below Hill in each of the last 2 weeks. Clearly his kicking was down but he was working pretty hard to get to positions and to play the r...

Re: Rod Owen
Two things. First, Rod Owen was a potential good player but no Royce Hart, as suggested in the article. Owen was too short for a key position in the 80s being the same height as Robert Harvey and too slow to be a flanker being a slow turner and average on the ground. He was not two sided. He could ...

Carlisle is better than hunter and mckernan in any position on the field including ruck.
No matter how fast the game.
It is concerning that there are members of the football department that do not realise that

Re: 45 degree kick
The ump was too busy watching the guy on the mark rather calling play on when the guy with the ball moved sideways off his line ...... and of course the player on the mark moving 2 steps sideways did not effect the play at all given the player with the ball was 8m back Just an absolute horrific rul...

Re: Roberton considering retirement
No he wont just be paid out. He cannot fulfill his contract. His payment would a negotiated amount at best. Does anyone know the rule about this? If he retires due to a health issue, will he get paid out in full? In part? negotiate a new role at the club? If he retires for health issues, will his 2...

Re: Mason Wood
Out Jonathan Marsh In Mason Wood Slight upgrade but purely a ready made depth option I suspect. If Ryder goes down and Marshall plays full time ruck, Wood may come into the mix as a replacement forward depending on how King , Membrey & Battle are travelling Yes.. was thinking the same... Both h...

Re: Permission to Train / Rookie List
According to ace's list we have 2 x primary list spots, 3 x Rookie A spots and 1 Rookie B spot available. We do have 2 primary list places but it is only by not filling those that we have 3 rookie A spots free. So we can add 3 primary/rookie A players of whom only 2 can be primary. Then we can fill...

Re: Was this our worst ever trade?
the Everitt trade was not so bad.. got pick 6 and 22. Using 6 on Brooks was aweful and a disaster. Port used 6 on Salopek and then Mackie went at 7. Considering how poor our bottom couple of players were, if we get either of them in our 2009/2010 team and we win at least one flag. Salopek or Mackie ...

Re: Speculaton on 2021 Free Agents
You would think both will be offered new contracts on less money than their current deals but both seem committed to the saints... Billings was good in 2019 but not great in the latter part of 2020.. Ross started 2020 slow but actually finished well. Let's see how they go in 2021..doubt the club wil...

Re: Permission to Train / Rookie List
The NAB league will become u19 next year. A bunch of kids will play who have been unsighted for a year and who can be taken midseason. Who knows how many will come out and be good? Presumably they can also play some VFL games if they are already in that age range, so they can be assessed further. Th...

Presumably we can move a couple players to the rookie list?
We should use at least two draft picks. Pick in the 60s may actually m over up quite a bit with many earlier picks used as points for academy players.

Huge Free Kick against numbers vs Freee Kick for.
That is bad and needs to be addressed. There is clearly an issue, it is year after year.

Re: This is how the Crouch deal will go down.......
Don't understand the fuss. There was nan open market for crouch. We paid the most. That salary we offered was within the range of a band 3 pick. A band 3 pick is the second round which is the range of picks 19-38, but slides after other comp to 23-42. So the open market valued Crouch at pick 23-41. ...

Re: Dopers interested in Hind
Would not think our offer to Hind would be large.. If bombers offered him more money and an extra year.. Such as two years assuming we are offering one... I don't think we will match them. Decent depth player but that will be weighed against salary cap and future list management. Also may see more o...

third year players who are not best 22 do not cost much. Even fringe players in a premiership team.
Getting him at the right moment IMO. Clearly will cost more than Butler but cant see us paying too much.
Classic St. Kilda future 2nd perhaps?

If he has agreed to come, there is no need for either side to "announce" it prior to the trade period.
