Re: Can anyone make sense of what we have become?
I predicted something like this (although not 4 wins in a row) after watching our pre-season outing against the Bombers. Our backline - which we already knew was bloody good - looked even better with NWM in a key role: notwithstanding his tendency to make quite a few fumbles and misdirected kicks (...

Re: Can anyone make sense of what we have become?
Ok. So next week will be a real litmus test but seriously, where the hell has this come from? Ok so I understand we have better coaches, better system etc but half the team in looking AA ATM. Was the list just not as bad as we thought it was? Most folks had us bottom 6-4. We look Top 4 easy at this...

Re: Match Thread Saints v Suns Round 4 2023
Cannot stress enough how bad the suns are. They will go close to last this year, they were pitiful. They aren’t bad. Inconsistent is better. Last night they didn’t stop trying. The tall kid in the ruck was good as was Anderson, Rowell and Miller. If they’d maintained their first Q effort for four q...

Re: Match Thread Saints v Suns Round 4 2023
I was at the game. Here is my take. This was a good old fashioned walloping. We put them to the sword. From the opening bounce it was clear the Suns were never going to win. The Saints were slow to begin, and the Suns managed to stay with us for the first quarter. But this team needs space to operat...

Re: Full pre game ceremony
Oh man, that pre-match entertainment was fantastic, really good introduction, paying respects to past players, heroes and ordinary, the diehard supporters who are the heartbeat of St Kilda FC, and then the build up to Dan Sultan and Alex lahey performing 'Owen', followed by a whole lot more musicia...

What About Our Coaches?
A lot of column space in this place has, quite rightly, been devoted to the footballers who run on and present each week. Posters have drawn attention to the mighty contributions from the up and comers and from some unlikely sources like Mason Wood. Clearly some of the young guys such as Owens, Wind...

Re: Darragh Joyce watch
I thought he was poor. Wow In what regard, because that is a pretty big statement I watched him closely all night and he was the only reason I wanted Lions to win. Very disappointing game from him. Played to loose on his man for my liking and too slow. getting caught a few times with the ball in ha...

Have We (Finally) Run Out Of Bodies?
No footy team is an infinite resource. The Saints have been magnificent in carrying the injury load inflicted on the club, almost exclusively because of bad luck. But when does that luck run out? Has it already? I can’t help feeling the injury to our Captain, our best player and all round work horse...

Re: Message to SOS…sign Caminiti up NOW!
Just goes to show how we poor, miserable, desperate, success-deprived Saints supporters will hail as an answer to our prayers the recruitment of a player that no-one has ever heard of.....  Guess time will tell if Caminiti is going to make the grade, great if he does. I think you were s...

Re: Lyon and his vision of our 2023 game style.
A lot is being made of how RTB will approach the job second time around. Understandable. He coached us before. Left in unfortunate circumstances. Now he is back. Maybe he’s changed. Maybe he hasn’t. Maybe it will be for a short honeymoon and back to the old Ross we know and didn’t much care for. My ...

Re: Lyon and his vision of our 2023 game style.
I predict there'll be some on here extracting their tongues out of his bumhole soon enough when reality bites Could be some knives wanting to be inserted in his back next year rather than any extracting going on I don't see it that way at all (even though I'm still sceptical as to whether RL can re...

A question. You mentioned a couple of the newbies. Wondering how the rest of them are doing? Mattaes P for example?

Has anyone looked at this kid's highlight reel?
I know a highlight reel can be a bit misleading in defining worth, but this kid looks like a jet.
Fast, evasive, good mark and kicks goals. Exciting.

Re: What a brilliant draft - well done Saints!
It is important to benchmark this thread . It may turn out that these blokes can’t play. In years to come people - with the benefit of hindsight - might say “ Look, we picked some dud at pick 10 and we missed a Brownlow medallist at 11. The recruiters are idiots”. That is an invalid argument. The r...

Re: Welcome Mattaes Phillipou
He sounded keen. Yeah, I thought he spoke well despite previous interviews making him look a bit full of himself. Sounded stoked to get to Victoria. I don't mind a bit of arrogance on the footy field as long as they can back it up. Petracca was thought to be full of himself at the time. The kid has...

Re: Welcome Mattaes Phillipou
Horrible selection. He’s pretty much publicly stated he doesn’t want to play here. Surely he’s paying 50-1 to still be at the club by 2025. Did he really say he didn't want to play for the Saints? Not that I am aware. https://7news.com.au/sport/afl/south-australian-draft-gun-mattaes-phillipou-makes...

There are no free rides for anyone from here on. Get really fit, work really hard and improve. That will get you a game (maybe) in 2023. One certainty, if you don't do any of those you won't. Everything is on the line for RTB. Last chance saloon as an AFL coach. Lenny, Banger and BJ never tasted pre...

Re: Tsadis / Phillipou / McKenzie
Sadly, we won't get both.
If you leave Hewett to our second pick, he will be well and truly gone before we get our chance.
Our only hope to get both is to move up the board.
Can't see that happening either.

Re: Ratts praised for his incredible dignified exit
Thanks for posting this saynta, there's little doubt that Brett Ratten is in every way a very decent human being because his exit came totally out of the blue and would have been really hard for him to accept. It was obvious when he was coach that one of his big strengths was loyalty to the players...
