Re: The Jack Newnes factor.

t's weird and somewhat creepy to peep on Carlton's fansite, but I can't help it.... On Newnes.. (after just four games) "This isn't a question of Newnes' career performance, it's a question of what he can manage today. He's clearly not the player he was, and we're clearly not playing him in th...

Re: Nicky Winmar suing Sam Newman and co-hosts for attempt to revise historical moment

You must have been a very articulate and worldly five year old when you went to that match at Moorabbin 30 years ago to witness such racial abuse and make a bold and defining decision to attend only spasmodically over the next 30 years. Was the abuse leveled at our players by North fans or at North...

Re: Nicky Winmar suing Sam Newman and co-hosts for attempt to revise historical moment

I was at that game in the outer and do not recall a single racist word yelled at a player. Maybe at that time I was just accepting that racism was the norm so I don't recall anything specific. i remember the Nicky gesture and it being reported at the time rightly or wrongly as a showing guts gestur...

Actually, here’s an article talking about the different reporting at the time. See under “The Moment.” https://www.thefreelibrary.com/That+picture--Nicky+Winmar+and+the+history+of+an+image.-a0215787820 Maybe Don Scott etc were just recalling what they read in the Herald Sun at the time rather than b...

Re: Nicky Winmar suing Sam Newman and co-hosts for attempt to revise historical moment

By questioning the original motive of Winmar raising his jumper - you are effectively arguing any number of the following: - He's a liar. - He's deceived many people for his own personalr gain. - He might not have really cared about racism at the time, and winning a game of footy meant more to him....

Re: RUCK Duo Zero

From watching the game on TV it appeared in the 1st quarter that Grundy was absolutely slaughtering Marshall, whereas Ryder was jumping over the top of him on occasions and could at least compete. Ryder was beating Grundy to the point he actually infringed at every contest there after to beat Ryder...

Re: Changes Rnd 4

Anyway, I don't think the pinch hitter role is such a big deal, if Marshall rucks 90% plus of the time. Grundy rucks 95% of the time for Collingwood. I mean, Jason Blake was our main ruckman at one stage - at 189cm, and we benefited from his around-the-ground work - and it hasn't come to this, now....

Re: Unpluggered: Lenny Hayes on his career and Hall of Fame

GT built the foundations and created the blueprint for sustained success. Lenny is a selfless character, and one of the most courageous leaders and a smart guy who knew and believed with that big heart of his where the team was heading under the leadership of GT. I think he knew that guys like Max ...

Re: Team v Dogs

Well the backline would want to perform if Roberton cannot get a game in it. FWIW, I’d have found a way to get him in, even if it meant playing him out of position. He’s a best 22 player and versatile enough to play a number of roles IMO. Carlisle could be versatile, too, if he wanted to be, but pr...

Zac Jones is a sort of poor man's Nathan Burke; D. Howard is a sort of poor man's Max Hudghton; Hunter Clark is a rich man's Hunter Clark. Nick Coffield, who was not mentioned, is up 100 points in the rich man's futures portfolio. We pick them because they are here now, expensive, and we need to fi...

Having a hard time getting excited about the team or the coach. Hopefully the lads can get a win and start the ball rolling. The doggies also coming off an embarrassing loss so it should be on. This is an incredibly sad story and should never be trivialised in the way that some on this forum have done. I never thought of Laidley as a "quality person". A lot of trouble seems to magically find him. He didn't even attempt to get bail - odd, really. Never felt comfortable when he was in a coaching role at the club.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVDqgyaPSrs Ok, I know a lot of us aren't massive Lloydie fans, but point number 1 was pretty fair - "under Cho, pressure pressure, but once they got the ball, no-one knew what to do with it". Fair comment. His comment about our ruckmen was fairly unclear, ...

I always felt that Malt Mickhouse looked a lot like Punch, from Punch and Judy. He didn't help himself by growing that ridiculous little tuft of facial hair right under his enormous mouth. Agree with you Saynta, Mickey was a turd.

Re: Tom backs brother Paddy McCartin to return to footy in 2021

Paddy clearly isn’t in the right frame of mind to make this decision. No chance he will or should play again, he’s a ticking time bomb. Yeah, I'm inclined to think that, given all the evidence and his truly awful concussion history. In my humble opinion, he has too much of the later career "Ko...
