Re: Chips Frawley

I'm exceptionally confident that we did in fact have a big crack at Frawley, as I just stated in the Roberton thread, but that was probably our one and only chance to get him, since, as you said, he still has two years to go on his contract and by the time that expires we'll hopefully have someone e...

Re: Membership Pack

What I want to know is why I only qualify for "Silver" membership? I've had a membership for pretty much every year since 1990 and yet they say I've only had one for 8 years, when it would be more like 20? Do their records only go back 8 or 9 years or what, has anyone heard? go ring the c...

Re: Saints Sign Roberton

All I'm saying is they are cutting the list hard which makes them feel less secure and surely guys that have developed along side him and considered mates are in that group. It has been reported in the media and on forums. http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/afl/melbourne-defender-james-frawley-say...

In the past it has been the choice between cricket and footy, but in this case it might be the choice between gangsta and footy!

Re: upgrading rookies

Is our list at a point now that we can not upgrade a rookie unless of a long term injury i remember hearing that during the season you can upgrade a rookie if it fits into your overall salary cap or something? You'll find the answer in this other thread: http://www.saintsational.net/viewtopic.php?f...

Re: veterans and nominated rookies

I think you nailed it with your last line there! :D I'm pretty sure that next year we will have about 7 who are eligible to have about $112K of their contracts outside the salary cap (Roo, Kosi, Lenny, Milne, Blake, Dal, Joey, who have all been at the club for the minimum 10 years) and that because ...

Re: AFL Fullback

Simpkin has a lot going for him and is, as you said, tough as nails, as well as strong overhead and he also defends and kicks well, but is listed at only 191cm and is also relatively lightly built and not freakishly athletic, so those things will probably mean that he is going to struggle with those...

Re: AFL Fullback

Yep agree, not much to lose and potentially a lot to gain. Even if he plays back there and it doesn't work, the experience there could be invaluable to him, especially if he gets to learn some tricks from the likes of Tippett, Cox, Natanui, Petrie, etc, which he can then employ himself once he gets ...

Re: Picks 12 & 13

Very, very happy with what we ended up getting out of picks 12 and 13. We rated Lee higher than Jacksch (who went at 12), so to get picks 24 (who we got Wright with) and 46 (which I think we ended up getting TDL with) as well, was a tremendous result. We would have happily taken Lee with pick 12 or ...

Re: PSD

Richmond win the environmental award for their recycling. Over the last couple of months they have picked up Troy Chaplin, Chris Knights, Aaron Edwards and now Ricky Petterd, Orren Stephenson and Sam Lonergan. Pretty funny that the AFL website crashed during the drafts today, too. So much for announ...

Re: PSD

I was told that there was someone at Frankston that we were quite keen on, but evidently we were not quite keen enough. There were only 45 that we really considered were worth drafting this year, hence trading away all the picks we had between 45 and 75 in the ND (we left 75 free to pick up Dunell, ...

Well, let me put it this way, I hope anyone that had their cars parked near Windy Hill in the past week or so had them well locked and I hear that ice is not just just something you put into drinks. well im glad we steered clear of that ice is not good unless its in a drink Yeah, that's what...

Re: AFL Fullback

Yep, this year it was generally the "monsters" that gave us awful trouble down back, because we only had 188-193cm options to play on them and they were simply too short, generally. That is only going to get worse in coming years, especially with less/few teams have a "resting ruckman...

Re: PSD

After what I was told about why Garlett was overlooked in the ND, I'm not at all surprised that he wasn't taken today either. The only thing I was surprised about was that a club invited him to train with them at all.

Re: My best 22 & squad of 30 for round 1 2013

I must be biased but those teams are one key defender away from being incredibly strong teams pushing top 4! Now I know why M Brown was such a priority when you look at those lists. And to think the likes of Markworth, Dunnell, Lee, Ross, Ledger, Hickey, Milera are all on the brink of selection. I ...

Re: Banking on the Draft

What Pelchen and co have done in the past two years is to try and redress the errors of 2008/09. With Saad, Milera, Dunell, Shenton, Lee, Hickey, TDL all in the 21-24 age group, they have attempted to fill the void left by the disasters of 08/09. Add to this the multple picks/shuffling that came wi...

Re: AFL Fullback

Stanley is being groomed as FB, in a very attacking mode ala Fletcher from Essendon. Yep, certainly hearing that from a few places now. The idea is growing on me, especially if he doesn't try to get into too many wrestles and instead uses his height/reach/leap to advantage, as Fletcher does so well...

Re: Tom Lee 2013 Impact

I'm not suggesting we do it long term, but if there are three others in ahead of him who are in great form (say Roo, Wilkes, Rhys), then it wouldn't surprise me if he starts with the green jacket at least in his first couple of games, just to see how he handles the step up. He may be tall, but he's ...

I didn't think your comments about Arryn at the time were in any way over the top or out of line. They were honest as you saw it and that is what we want.

Re: Tom Lee 2013 Impact

Personally, I would probably start Wilkes at FF, especially if he continues to tear up the track over the preseason, as he has apparently been doing so far (not sure if it's been mentioned here, but apparently he fronted up to preseason training looking fitter and slimmer and the club were thrilled ...

Re: Tom Lee 2013 Impact

Like Saad this year, I'm expecting Lee to come in and make pretty much an immediate impact, (form and fitness permitting) unless there are simply too many ahead of him up forward who are in sparkling form and fit (ie. Riewoldt, Wilkes, Stanley, Kosi). Even then he may get squeezed into the backline ...

Re: The Midfield Issue

You can definitely see why went pretty hard for Caddy and I expect that we'll be targeting anyone like him that becomes available in next year's trade or free agency periods pretty hard. This year it was ruck and FB, next year it will probably be FB and midfield. Hopefully Ledger, for one, really st...
