Re: Rucking matters
I'm not suggesting that he isn't mobile at all, but he is on the "lumbering" side, as opposed to the "athletic" side and isn't that tall by modern ruck standards (200cm) and I wouldn't want him playing permanently or mostly forward, as he is just not quick, athletic or agile enou...

Re: Watters issues ‘the challenge' to Saints
Really enjoyed that article and what Watters had to say. I've got to say I quite like Jon Ralph, too. Many have written us off and reckon we are the slide in a big way (if you want any proof just have a look at the "projected ladder for 2013" thread, on BF, where almost everyone who doesn'...

Re: Rucking matters
That is why I wonder about how much confidence the club has in Mac's rucking ability long term, especially as those he comes up against get progressively taller and/or more athletic. The age of the 200cm "lumbering ruckman" is very quickly coming to a close, I would suggest, even if they h...

Re: Spencer White
People thinking Hickey, Lee and TDL are going to be good players in their first year are in fantasy land. Didn't you say the exact same sort of thing this time last year when the likes of me were saying that we expected Saad to be in our best 22 this year and that he could play a significant role p...

Re: Rucking matters
I think it's ruck or bust for Mac, especially as we're likely to have Stanley in the side as well, who can give that chop-out in the ruck to someone like Hickey, if he happened to be in the no.1 role, as I expect that in the short term we will have too many options up forward in Roo, Wilkes, Stanley...

Re: Spencer White
Interesting to note that not only did Sydney only have one in their premiership team who was darfted in the top 10 of a national draft, but according to an article in today's HS they only have I think it was 4 on their whole list who were taken in the top 20 of a national draft.

Re: Rucking matters
All round he certainly has it over Rhys (although he ought to, as Rhys was only 21 this year and has much less experience, ditto Hickey, who only took up the game 4 years ago) and most seem to agree that Mac could take over the captaincy from Roo, but what happens if the new ruck rules make it harde...

Re: Options down back
Given that we are likely to have all of Roo, Wilkes, Lee and Kosi (plus Siposs and Dunell, who can play the lead-up role up there and even Hickey, who could potentially be played up forward a bit, switching with Mac) as options up forward, we can certainly afford to give Rhys a go back there to see ...

Re: Rucking matters
Personally, I thought that prior to his injuries this year, Rhys was clearly superior to Ben in the centre bounces (relative to how much time they were spending there), due to the fact that, whether Ben has a leap or not, Rhys just has a considerably bigger one. This meant that when Rhys was getting...

Re: Spencer White
I posted this in a thread on BF about who in your team's best 22 was likely to improve, stay the same, or decline next year and it shows just how many in our side could genuinely have better years next year without all that much trouble: This is based on everyone playing most games and not carrying ...

Re: Spencer White
For mine, a heap of it is going to come down to what Thommo alluded to in the other thread and that is how much of a fire in the belly do the older ones still have? If it is not quite there, then we we won't be doing anything but making up the numbers, as the younger ones are not ready to step up th...

Re: Hi Saintsational......again. Its been a long time!
Here here. I felt it was definitely the right decision to let Grant go in the end, as we just seemed to be going nowhere by then and I'd suggest the stuff between Grant and Rod was having a major effect, so something definitely had to give (whether we could have achieved the same result without Gran...

Re: My best 22 & squad of 30 for round 1 2013
I've been wondering in recent weeks whether TDL might be able to play in a back pocket, especially on the likes of Cyril, Betts, Garlett, Ballantyne etc. He is meant to be lightning quick, so would probably be able to keep up with any of them, is a decent size at 181cm and is strong overhead, so oug...

Re: Spencer White
Siposs was one of those we drafted in 2010 and while he may not have been taken in the top 20 then, if the draft was done over tomorrow Gotta agree with that... the bloke is at the bottom age of the 2010 group... his peers are almost closer to the 2011 group.. .if he were compared with the 2011 gro...

Re: Spencer White
As I said in my edited post above, I'm pretty sure Sydney only had one in their premiership team this year that they got in the top 10 of a draft and we can also do a lot of damage with a big cheque book and $1million+ of free space in the salary cap. Our list is also in much, much better shape than...

Re: Spencer White
Sorry I thought we got Rooy because of finishing bottom. Also Ball, Dal BJ and others because we were down the bottom. Our past top 10 pick was probably Armo. And as much as he is improving he isnt replacing Lenny. There are many ways to skin a cat. How many top 10 picks did Sydney have in their pr...

Re: Spencer White
I disagree with much of that and if you reckon SOS doing the negotiating for GWS didn't help us to get Saad and Milera for just a 5 pick downgrade (possibly the most one-sided deal in history) and to then get Lee, as well as picks 24 and 43, for pick 12, when some in the industry apparently rated hi...

He remind me of the big Snake G Train. Laconic kicking style that gets the job done. Yep, me too. Really like it. I just heard the SEN guy Luff talking the AFL prospectus run downs on clubs and he predicts that our 3 years of below standard recruiting are going to put us out of the picture for a lo...

Re: Spencer White
just watched the you tube vid i like what i saw at the end of it some big marks and has a very relaxed action on the left when kicking for goal gee, hopefully he turns into something special for us in the next two or so years 8-) Yeah, apparently that video doesn't really do justice to his high mar...

Re: Chips Frawley
I was told by someone who very much knows these sorts of things about our club that we had a good crack at getting him and made Melbourne some genuine offers for him, then turned our attentions to Mitch Brown when it became clear that it wasn't going to happen. This was before trade week even starte...

... so hopefully any major issues are behind him, particularly if he had anything significant that perhaps triggered them , for instance. Something like this could 'trigger' most 13/14 year olds... :( Indeed. I wasn't sure that that was public knowledge, but yes, that is what I was basically referr...

Re: Spencer White
Well, the club apparently interviewed him at least 3-4 times, so I imagine they are satisfied that he is of good character (which seems to be very much a prerequisite for anyone we draft now) and I've been told as much myself and he comes across well in the video interview on the Saints website, so ...

Re: Au Revoir Dayle
He wont ever play AFL. His issues are way too serious. It's not a case of go away concentrate on your footy for a season or two ... Yeah, if he stays over there in WA, especially, it's hard to see him ever getting out of the habits that I've heard he's in, without something pretty major to jolt him...
