Just throwing this out there but who on this forum thought it a good idea to give Michael Gardiner another contract? After two years on our list with injuries surely we were better off not bothering with the outside chance that he would get his body right and put together some fantastic performances...

"with the likes of Xavier and Raphael Clarke, Matt Maguire and young ruckman Ben McEvoy forced to bide their time in the VFL"

This is what I'm loving about this season. Players are really going to have to work to get into this team. Could be the making of X.

The whole Anzac link to footy thing gets on my tits to be honest. The amount of players and coaches (even Ross unfortunately) tying the two together with a "play in the spirit of the Anzacs" twaddle is a real crock. We are talking about war ladies and gentlemen. This is not a game. Today I...

This is probably the pessimist in me coming out but I worry that we will nor be able to sustain that intensity for a whole season. That kind of forward pressure must really take it out of the guys physically and mentally and I wonder what will happen come round 18 or so. Having said that the team un...

Can't think which game it was now, but a commentator last night was amazed by the fact that 700-odd players all know exactly what "the secret code" of holding the ball above their head means...but not one out of 3 million a week who watch it understand it. I am really enjoying that this s...

bit of life exprience has helped make Sam a very well rounded person. (great guy to talk to after games). Love players like that. Andrew Thompson was another I believe, as was Ian Wright in the EPL for Arsenal. They are a welcome relief from the guys who have been in the system since their teens an...

As someone who came to AFL late and has watched Football (soccer to the rest of you) all his life (I'm from London) the constant dicking about with the rules is bewildering. To change rules so readily (and mid-way through a season in some cases) is just staggering. A quick trial in the NAB cup and t...

Modern Game Suits Kosi

Thinking on something Buckley said last night. With the increase in zonal defences it's going to be increasingly rare for a ff to have space to lead into. Less and less teams are going to give up that space in the forward 50 and more often there will be a player defending that zone. Traditional lead...

A great example of this was at the end of the 2nd quarter when we were chipping it around on the wing, then switched the play found Gilbert loose in the middle who passed to Milne on the goal line for a goal. A great example of good modern footy. Yet all around me were screaming to kick it long and ...

Without an out and out champion matchwinning midfielder who can kick goals we are all kidding ourselves (Refer: Hawthorn & Geelong). Therefore, add the following to the very top of the list: - Dal Santo - Ball - Hayes - Montagna At least one of them MUST go to the next level, or we keep pissing...

Andrew Thompson for me.
You could really see by the way he went about it that he was picked up when he was in his twenties and he did not take any game he played at AFL level for granted.

While we're at it how about a few more rule changes to make the game more interesting: Should a quarter be goalless the umpires must call a time out whilst the broadcaster shows some ads. Hit the post is play on. (actually I like that one) If the ball is out of bounds the first player to the footy g...

I feel if RL was prepared to give Allen a go up forward tonight ... then it wouldn't be a bad idea to bring in young McEvoy in a similar position with the added benefit of some rucking experience ... Tonight was agreat example I think of how his gameplan works. Tempo footy, us holding on to the ball for periods and then releasing when ready. Very accountable when the opposition have the ball and forcing them out wide (one reason that their kicking for goal was poor). Getting the ball in to our f...
