Necessity Is The Mother Of Invention

I'm going way outside the square here. Way outside. Gresham is a major loss for our team and supplied a significant amount of grunt. Alongside Steele and Jones, he has been the engine. I'm not sure we can just bring in a new young player to fill that void. We can patch it up but I am don't think tha...

Re: The Full Game - Q1 - Q4 Impact Scores v Gold Coast

Loving your work down at the Junction. In fact, I've greater respect for your summary that any in the media. Perhaps I have a personal bias, as your assessment is closely aligned to my own intuitive judgement. It's important to acknowledge that your measurements are based in Impact. As such a defen...

72% according to AFL stats.
Which was the 4th lowest TOG for the Saints. Thankfully Dan Butler was on the ground 92%

Re: The Full Game - Q1 - Q4 Impact Scores v Gold Coast

Quick question When a guy like Hunter balks or side steps and then sells a dummy in heavy traffic how many impact points does that action alone score, and if he is the initial chain in a scoring opportunity would that give him a bonus impact score of any value...especially if it was an efficient di...

I watched the replay yesterday and just cross referenced your top vote getters with the action. Hind, Hill, and Marshall surprised me with their efficiency and work rate You were spot on with most of the others too. Brilliant work DownAt The Junction Thank you, Scollop. Possibly so, but last week he was outstanding in Q4. I'm not sure of his time on ground in the second half (this week) but his impact since returning has been solid.

Good little thought there actually DATJ... Does the significance of the play in the context of the match impact the score? Should it? [/quote] Considering Hind's score last week, he should do ok. Re: Battle forward

I was just thinking this - with Membrey so reliable overhead - but not having a huge impact forward - maybe Battle goes forward and Members as a link-up man / get out of trouble kick between the Arcs? I like this as a thought but I'm not sure how happy he would be. I think he could play similarly t...

Re: Battle forward

If we are going to move Marshall from a position he played well in, we may as well do the same with Battle? While we’re at it, move Jack Steele off the oppositions best, move Dunstan out of the centre square and Billings from the wing to somewhere else? I'd certainly be loathe to move Marshall away...

Re: The Impact Scores - Who REALLY did play well

Great effort D a T J and I agree with most of the ratings. I didn't have Jones high up in my votes simply because I think a guy who pinpoints a pass over 30m metres should be rated higher than the bloke who gets it and kicks it long to a contest. I saw Jones kick a few deep inside 50 entries that e...

Re: The Impact Scores - Who REALLY did play well

Enjoyed your analysis but what of players who are asked to sacrifice their own game for the benefit of the team? For example, early on in the game we brought the ball into the forward line and two of the forwards led their opponents away from the contest leaving King (I think) one out with their op...

Re: The Impact Scores - Who REALLY did play well

A quick question for you DATJ. Say Hind receives a handpass, steps around an opponent and kicks a banana kick for a goal on his left foot and then later gets the ball and kickd in a similar fashion but misses everything, would the 2 scores cancel each other? Allocating a score to an action is undou...

Re: The Impact Scores - Who REALLY did play well

Paton at second last shows this system has major faults. I would sincerely (and respectfully) ask you to check the vision again. I may well be in the minority, but I watch it several times over (often 'frame by frame' of every action) to make the best judgement I can. It would be unfair to score hi...

Re: The Impact Scores - Who REALLY did play well

Sinclair has been unappreciated by many fans for a long time. He has long been close to my favourite player since I first saw him play while still a rookie and if memory serves me correctly, he was the only player on our list rated as elite by the stats guys a couple of years ago. The selectors tho...

Re: The Impact Scores - Who REALLY did play well

Another outstanding assessment down at the Junction. Last week your analysis identified Hind which surprised many, but he delivered again this week, and even blind Freddy could see he was outstanding. This week you have rated Sinclair higher than most. After watching the replay it's clear that he d...

The Impact Scores - Who REALLY did play well

This is the second match for those interested in finding players that impact, rather than raw statistics. For those unsure of how this works I’ll quickly revisit. I allocate points (and half points) to actions that impacted our performance. What constitutes impact? This is quite subjective - it migh...
