Re: Changes Rnd 3

I think we need to persist with Byrnes. He's 21, played 30 games and will form part of the next generation of youth. Rd1 he had 27 disposals. Round 2 only 8 disposals but not sure if he had a specific role to play. I remember him centering the ball into the corridor and hitting someone on the chest ...

Re: Changes Rnd 3

I think it's pretty straight forward. Windy takes Steele's role and Bytel comes in as the sub. Everyone else stays in the same position. Although I would love to see them bombing to someone taller than Higgins 1.77m at the top of the square, but I think this not a personnel issue but a strategy/setu...

Re: Phillipou

Watched "all the goals" on saints website and Phillipou was involved in a lot of them. 1. A well weighted kick forward to Marshal who handed to Cordy to Gresh... goal 2. Another long ball from half back to Caminiti who brings ball to ground,.. Higgins, Clark, Higgins goal 3. Marks and goa...

Re: Round 1 side

Just to keep this thread intact before it gets derailed by a troll, I'm a big fan of the structure that Campbell would bring to the table. Strong body, mature, work horse, would provide an honest contest as a tall forward and would provide ruck relief (although I'm not that impressed with his ruckwo...

Re: Round 1 side

Thoughts on this again? Taking into account Caminiti to play R1 and Coffield/Membrey out. B : Wilkie - Howard - Webster HB : Sinclair - Battle - Wanganeen C : Hill - Crouch - Wood HF : Byrnes - Caminiti - Gresham F : Owens - Campbell - Higgins R : Marshall - Steele - Clark I : Windhager - Bytel - St...

Just saw his highlight reel and he plays like De Goey. Wouldn’t be the worst pick.

From what I can see, I think in the long term Reuben Ginbey will be the best of this year's crop and a future brownlow medallist. He plays like Clayton Oliver.

I can see him as a lockdown back pocket taking Paton’s role. Looks to have some mongrel and can also hit a target.

Do copycats ever win the flag? Sooner or later, everything old is new again. Maybe Ross should double down and persist with the defensive emphasis. In 5 years it may be the new flavour again :D

Re: Goddard's Back???

The coaches are all a big tick for me. The big question I have is 'does the current list have the same drive/want for success as their coaches'? I think the answer for many is 'no'. It's going to take a few years of turning the list over and recruiting a bunch of players which have the 'drive'. I th...

Re: Players Ross will love

Here’s one from left field. I think big Tom Campbell will thrive given the way he gives 100% and throws his body around. He will play his role. It’ll also allow Lyon to play two big talls in the forward line (King and resting ruck). I would play Battle as the third tall and Membrey as the 4th tall b...

Re: The Age says Clarko would like Ben Long at Norf

North reed to start their re-build by instilling a competitive culture. There aren't too many players in the AFL that are more aggressive than Long. He'll show the other North players the standard required. That's why North would want him.

Re: Dan's 5 goal bag

When the heat is on, with finals type intensity, you can’t afford to have players that won’t put their body on the line.

This Brisbane game will be too intense for both Butler and to a lesser extent Billings.

I would definitely bring Higgins back in, he has been in fine form and is a little nugget.

Devilhead wrote: Thu 02 Jun 2022 3:44pm So you want to replace a ball butcher with a different ball butcher?
Yeh pretty much

But with Geary you get courage, leadership, experience, a strong voice down back.

Plus it also gives Paton a kick in the backside like Billings got.

Paton for Geary

Paton need a spell in the VFL. Needs time to work on cleaning up his disposal. Making too many errors. Against North he dropped marks he should have taken and missed targets by foot. Time to bring Geary back as the lockdown defender. Tough, experienced, leader. Paton will be around for a long time n...

Re: Andy McGrath

Taranto would provide a lot more than McGrath and would be a point of difference.

I see McGrath as being in the same mould as Steele, Crouch, Ross, Bytel and so I don't think we need him. Plus we'd need to give up too much to get him.

What about that mark / free kick over the shoulder that he wasn’t paid in the last 2 minutes near our goal square . Of course it had to be Ray Chamberlain, he’s be the only umpire not to pay that .

Re: Battle 'testing the waters'

He was a forward as a junior . I think with a solid pre-season training specifically with the forward line group, he would be very very good. If he gets traded away, he’ll go to another team and play full forward and kick 40+ goals a year. So that we don’t lose him, I’d consider pushing Membrey up t...

AFL's Brownlow Predictor

Just saw the current predicted leaderboard and it reminded me of how much we've stuffed up our recruiting. Correct me if I'm wrong. AFL.COM.AU'S BROWNLOW PREDICTOR 32 Marcus Bontempelli (Western Bulldogs) ..... Could have recruited this guy instead of Billings 31 Clayton Oliver (Melbourne) 25 Christ...

The only team I'm worried about is Geelong. All the other games are winnable. The cats keep on smashing us and we can't afford for it to keep on happening because their confidence against us is telling. We need to beat them during the regular fixture because it's inevitable that we'll meet them in t...
