Re: Andrew Basset tees off
It's pretty obviously pointed at the AFL in preparation for the Battle compo pick selection. If it is not band 1, we can keep the tirade going. Basset is doing absolutely the right thing, which is to be the squeaky wheel. He is calling for sympathy knowing the AFL is a PR based organisation right n...

Re: The Swans or the Lions ?
Bears mauled us by 85 points at home and I think RTB said afterwards they are the best team in it. They had Carlton 0-60 near half time in the second semi-final. They’ve loads of talent and if they turn up they are frighteningly good. If they don’t they’re beatable. Swans probably have a better tact...

Re: Jack McCrae
On reflection, I’m happy with the addition of McRae if he comes. He will immediately make our midfield better. We need to be very careful, though, that we don’t lose an up-and-comer who wants to move on citing lack of opportunity. The rule has to be that form and merit gets games. Selection integrity.

We’re going to need someone to replace Battle structurally and I wonder whether that could be Hayes or even Membrey.

Re: Ken Hinkley is the boss
What about Mitchell’s crybaby antics afterwards. Should be called Sookball, not Hokball. This gross hypocrisy coming from the man who mocked Essendon with injector gestures a few years back. What a complete social media storm this became. Bit of harmless banter by Hinkley and Sicily - still kicking ...

I’m very sorry to hear this. Never met him, but he helped me with something years ago via messages.
From that and his posts on here I always had him pegged as a ripping bloke. Vale

Think Ginni may be in trouble when the new social media laws come in. What’s the age limit? Sixteen?
He’s a dill. Led with his chin and copped his right whack. An important lesson for the young bloke, don’t shoot your mouth off. Hubris

If he were to come … so long as he gets games on merit and form and not because he’s been promised games. Sounds like a fairly hefty contract though. How much and how long, do we know?

Re: Jack McCrae
If he comes across for more opportunity it should be on the understanding that sides are picked on form and merit … ie, no promises of games.
Plus I tend to baulk a bit at a big contract for a guy who the Bulldogs couldn’t guarantee a game this season.

Re: How do we get the best out of Max King?
DONT build a forward line around him. If he stays forward, it needs to be on the clear understanding that he is only an option, not THE option. High half forward sounds a reasonable starting point. Don’t want to see him deep with three blokes on him standing static under a long bomb ever again. If t...

Re: Leek Aleer
 Forget Tomlinson and Laverde. Too old and not good enough. The club has tried the "moneyball" approach and it hasn't worked. Aleer would at least be worth having a decent crack at. Just 23, yet to hit his prime years, and could provide value for the next 8-10 years. Enough with bein...

Re: Battle
So we’ve got a few options to replace Battle down back. Caminiti? Played back this season at times. Has height, strength and long arms and is fairly agile for a big guy. Good mark. On the other hand, could develop into a pretty good key forward. Schoenmaker? Apparently has work to do on the defensiv...

Well Josh, I hope it comes to you in a sudden, blinding flash of inspiration ... as you line up on Cooper Sharman or Mitchito Owens or Max King in the 2026 grand final ... that you should have stuck with the forces of good rather than the forces of evil :P It's a body blow, but no one is irreplacable

A lot of this stuff is generated by player managers trying to get their guy a better deal … or even just a deal. Somewhere … anywhere.
I discard it until something actually happens.

Re: St Kilda's Last Gasp Winners
I can’t go past Lockett 1989.
He kicked 10.7 that day on full-back-of-the-century Stephen Silvagni in the definitive best-on-ground performance. Didn’t get the 3 Brownlow votes however.
Troy Schwarze (2004) and Gardiner (2009) were also rippers

call them that are there - don't make [sh]it up just to even the count. Exactly this. Very poor umpiring display. They were obviously more worried about how they would look - being blamed for Blues missing finals - rather than arriving at impartial and correct decisions. As for making them more pro...

Re: Game thread V Blues
What was the free kick count in the end, anyone? Thought we definitely had the rub of the green early, but when the game was up for grabs in the last, the umpires sided with the sizeable Carlton majority. Not sure we even got a free in the last. Seems to me they did their best to even up the numbers.
