Re: Geary has retired
Sheer determination and single mindedness. Most players with his ability don't make. Best mates with Joel Selwood. Grew up playing footy together. Both with the same attitude. Would be in the top 10 bravest players I've seen in a St Kilda guernsey Has every right to be proud of his achievements This

I know we lost it in the first half, etc, etc, but all hope really went out the window with that jumper tug on Schneiderman.
I still maintain we would have won it had that free been paid.

Re: Play the game and forget about the umpiring
Dermie couldn't have been at Victoria Park in 1970.
Harry Beitzel admitted on TV that night that Jolley had determined the outcome of the game.
You know what, I still get angry about that game. Doesn't pay to have a long memory, sometimes.

Re: As bad an umpiring performance you’ll see.
For what's it's worth, I thought the umpiring was shocking, especially in the 2nd half. They pulled frees for Carlton out of the air. Must have been 5 or 6 times, there would be a normal 50-50 tussle in a marking contest, or a seemingly clean contest at a centre bounce, and Carlton would get a mysti...

Re: Does your typical saints supporter suffer from PTSD
Great post, Loris. I'm sure we can all feel your pain. I was there in '66 too. A bit different for me though. It was my first Saints match after my family emigrated from the UK at the end of '65. I'd chosen the Saints as we stayed in St Kilda for around 6 weeks when we first arrived. I'm still glad ...

Forwards standing still.
No-one leads, ever.
Big roost to a contest the only option every time.

Re: Dunstan shares trade period stress in new AFL documentary
Dunstan's disposal was very poor when under NO PRESSURE...in space, with time, he would butcher his kicks, especially his delivery into forward 50. Often overshooting by many metres, sometimes grubbing the ball along the ground. He also fumbled below his knees and his handball was sloppy. Yes, he's...

Re: Dunstan shares trade period stress in new AFL documentary
Hopefully, we've gone from a 'no dickheads' policy to a no 'can't kick' policy.
Peter Schwab once asked Alex Ferguson "what do you do with players who can't kick".
Ferguson's reply, "We don't have any players who can't kick".

Re: The Grand Final - who'll win and why
I’ve never liked Melbourne, and my feeling goes back to the late ‘60s. They seem to be seen as some sort of sentimental favourite, but not in my mind. There appears to be a fair bit of triumphalism among Demons supporters around town, which is always annoying, and surely has to be tempting fate. Sai...
